TROY Hip Hop arrives on All Real Radio starting this Friday, April 3, 2015 at 7pm! I know you all are just excited as we are to welcome our 1st female lead show to the station. From the outside looking in, we see a rising MC in Genesis Blu & a knowledged observer & educator in Lady Hip Hop – combined, they make up TROY Hip Hop, a NEW SHOW featuring Hip Hop analysis, news commentary, interviews, and music.
So, to get to know these ladies further, we sat down and asked the ladies some ‘welcoming’ basics.
1) How did Troy Hip Hop form?
LHH: Basically it started out as my friend Brooke and I spreading the word about different Hip Hop events: b-boy competitions, graffiti battles, concerts, etc… While attending a Rakim concert (circa 2014) we met Genesis Blu. Together we are the “Helens of TROY” and it is our mission to maintain the true essence of the Hip Hop lifestyle.
2) Describe each other in 3 words or less –
Genesis: Courtney(Lady Hip Hop)- Passionate, genuine, strong
LHH: Genesis Blu – Wise, Focused, Family
3) TROY is an acronym. For what?
Genesis: They Reminisce Over You. A nod to Hip Hop inspired by the Pete Rock and CL Smooth song of the same title.
4) What is Hip Hop?
Genesis: A culture that includes 5 elements: Emcee, DJ, Graffiti artist, B-Boy, and Knowledge
LHH: A lifestyle in which all the elements are respected, not just one. Also, Hip Hop builds, it does not destroy.
5) What are you listening to right now?
LHH: A LOT of Houston artist at the moment.
Genesis: Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Joey Bada$$, Rhapsody
6) Do you have a common goal in mind for your show? If so, what is it?
Genesis: To spotlight Houston talent and hip hop culture. To champion hip hop locally, nationally, and internationally.
LHH: Also, connecting the members of Houston’s Hip Hop Culture
7) You could have gone in any direction in your knowledge and artistry, why radio? Why All Real Radio?
Genesis: I always saw myself working in the field of entertainment as a DJ or VJ. It is a why to be immersed in the culture while also being able to have an influence. All Real Radio seems to be about the community and the culture which is in line with the values of Troy Hip Hop.
LHH: When the opportunity for radio was presented, it just seemed like a logical outlet to expose Houston Hip Hop on a national level. All Real Radio is about community, positivity and progression; so is TROY Hip Hop.
