About the host:

Born and bred in Hiram Clarke, Houston, Christopher “Mr. Chris” Whaley is a music enthusiast in the truest sense of the word. Raised in a household where music was always in abundance, Chris’ musical palette ranged from 50s doo wop and 60s psychedelic to 70s funk, 80s pop and 90s hip-hop. After graduating from Madison High School, Chris was discovered by former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader turned on-air personality Teri Richardson who encouraged him to bring his talents to radio station KSJL 96.1 FM San Antonio. From there he teamed up with a fellow music lover to form the Untouchables on KSYM 90.1 FM and a radio personality took flight. After moving back to Houston, Chris became a fixture on the spoken word scene for several years and showcased his mic skills at venues such as Mahogany Cafe, Muddi Waters, and High Volume Music. In 2006, frustrated by a lack of opportunity in radio and journalism, Chris and his wife Georgette created their own music publication, SOBO Magazine. Short for “soulful bohemian,” it catered to independent musicians and featured in depth interviews with entertainers such as the Family Stand, Mint Condition, Nona Hendryx, Omar, MC Lyte, and CeCe Peniston to name a few. In 2009, on Michael Jackson’s birthday, Chris and Georgette entered the world of podcasting with The SOBO Show. Three years later, Chris launched The Soul Brother Show with his first guest Susaye Greene of the Supremes. Since then Chris has interviewed a Who’s Who of soul and funk including Gregory Porter, Rahsaan Patterson, Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Apollonia Kotero, Denise Matthews (Vanity), and Jody Watley. He has a vast knowledge of music and is considered to be a walking musical encyclopedia who can quote facts in a split second. On any given day you will find him browsing through records at Cactus Music or Sig’s Lagoon and is always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone in regards to music and entertainment. His personality is vivid, his persona is colorful, and his laugh is infectious. In 2018, Chris is more than thrilled to bring in the noise and bring in the funk as well as his amazing radio personality to All Real Radio.
